SUMMARY:Economic Development Committee 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Economic Development Committee convenes Dublin business leaders who are interested in the economic viability of Dublin and the greater Tri-Valley area. The committee leads the Chamber's advocacy efforts on local public policy priorities.\n\n\n\nMarch Speaker\n\nSenator Wahab\, Chair of the California Senate Business\, Professions\, and Economic Development Committee (BPED)\, is focused on advancing legislation that supports small businesses and strengthens our economy. In that spirit\, Senator Wahab would like to visit with Dublin Chamber members to better understand the needs\, challenges\, and priorities facing local businesses. Please join us for a meeting with Senator Wahab!\n\n\n\nSenator Aisha Wahab\n\nState Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab represents California's 10th Senate District\, one of the state's strongest economic engines with a high concentration of manufacturers\, technology firms\, and small businesses. A trailblazing leader\, she made history as the first Afghan American elected to public office in the United States.\n\n \n\nHaving grown up in a family-owned business\, Senator Wahab understands firsthand the challenges small businesses face\, from rising costs to workforce needs. She is focused on strengthening California's economy through innovation\, workforce development\, and business resilience\, while ensuring state policies reflect the realities of employers and workers on the ground.\n\n \n\nBefore serving in the Senate\, Dr. Wahab was a member of the Hayward City Council\, where she advanced economic development initiatives\, housing affordability efforts\, and small business protections. Today\, as Assistant Majority Leader and Chair of the Senate Committee on Business\, Professions and Economic Development\, she continues to secure millions in state funding\, host small business and manufacturing roundtables\, and pass legislation that supports businesses\, workers\, and local communities.\n\n\n\nFollowing Senator Wahabs discussion we will have a Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) Roundtable Discussion\n\nThe City of Dublin is moving forward with creating launguage for a ballot measure to increase the TOT from 8% to 12 % over 2 years.
