DESCRIPTION:The Dublin Chamber is proud to present our first speaker for the NEW Annual Thought Leadership Speaker Series\n\n\n\n"The Future of America : Teaching and the Caging of the American Mind" with Dr. Harry Edwards - American Sociologist and Civil Rights Leader\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Harry Edwards has a long and storied history of activism focused upon developments in racial equity in America and around the world. The combination of his experiences as an African-American\, as an athlete\; and his training in sociology led Edwards to propose America had become very complacent about the issue of race in sports. He ultimately called for a Black athlete boycott of the United States 1968 Olympic team in large part to dramatize the racial inequities and barriers confronting Blacks in sport and society.  \n\n\n\nDr. Edwards was to become a consultant on issues of diversity for all three major sports.  He has worked for Major League Baseball\, the Golden State Warriors\, specializing in player personnel recruitment and counseling and also with the San Francisco 49ers in the area of player personnel counseling and programs. The programs and methods that he developed for handling player personnel issues were adopted by the entire NFL.\n\n\n\nIn June\, 2023\, the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) inducted Dr Edwards into the NAACP California Hawaii State Conference Legacy Hall of Fame.
