Las Positas College Theater Arts program announces auditions for spring 2024 production

Las Positas College's (LPC) Theater Arts program is thrilled to announce that auditions for its upcoming spring production of "She Loves Me" will take place December 13.

Set in Budapest in 1934, the romantic comedy musical tells the story of a small perfume shop in the heart of town. Two shop workers, Georg and Amalia, are constantly at odds with one another, though unbeknownst to them, they are each other’s secret “lonely hearts” pen pals. The store is filled with many colorful characters, all dealing with their own problems regarding love. The whole story is told through a musical score that uses operetta, Hungarian and Romani styles to create an amorous, delightful, lush-jewel box of a musical.

Director Dyan McBride describes "She Loves Me" as a romantic, charming, clever musical that she has adored for a long time. “Although it may not be as well-known as Bock and Harnick’s 'Fiddler on the Roof', it has achieved a sort of cult status since its initial run in 1963," said McBride. "Based on the play 'Parfumerie', there have been several incarnations on film, the most recent being 'You’ve Got Mail'. 'She Loves Me' unfolds in a sweet, intelligent fashion. It is a bonbon of a show."

Productions and auditions are open to anyone in the community over the age of 15. No prior experience is necessary, and students from all majors and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Scholarships are also available for demonstrated need.

Rehearsals will begin in mid January and performances will take place in mid-to-late March.
