Accelerated four-week courses offer students a new way to stay on track, get ahead, and graduate sooner
For the first time in the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District’s history, both Chabot College in Hayward and Las Positas College in Livermore will offer a winter intersession, giving students the opportunity to take accelerated, fully online courses during the winter break.
Running December 20, 2025, through January 17, 2026, the winter intersession enables students to catch up, get ahead, or explore new interests between semesters. Courses are designed to be completed in just four weeks, allowing students to earn one to three units and make progress toward their degrees, transfer goals, or career pathways before the spring semester begins.
“We are always looking for new ways to meet students where they are,” said Ronald Gerhard, chancellor of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. “The winter intersession offers an innovative and flexible option that helps students accelerate their progress, stay on track for graduation, and use their time efficiently.”
Registration for the winter intersession opens as early as November 11, 2025 for some students. Courses will be offered 100% online and asynchronous, providing maximum flexibility for new and continuing students. Financial aid is available for eligible students, and both colleges will provide online tutoring and support 24 hours a day and seven days a week to ensure student success.
Expanding Access and Impact
The introduction of winter intersession reflects the district’s broader commitment to innovation, equity, and student success. Graduates from the district’s colleges see significant economic benefits: the average associate degree holder earns $12,000 more annually than someone with a high school diploma. CLPCCD programs rank among the best in California and collectively contribute more than $800 million in added income and over 7,700 local jobs to the regional economy each year.
“Our students’ success is our community’s success,” said Dr. Jamal A. Cooks, president of Chabot College. “Offering in-demand classes over the winter break allows us to provide even more access to high-quality education that changes lives and supports regional growth.”
Dr. Dyrell Foster, president of Las Positas College, added, “Students are balancing work, family, and personal commitments. The winter intersession gives them a fast, flexible way to move closer to their goals—whether that’s transferring to a university, finishing a degree, or building career-ready skills.”
