Wheels is providing FREE bus service for youth all summer long with its second annual Summer Youth Ride Free promotion. Free rides on Wheels run through August 31. This promotion makes it easy for kids and teens to explore all the opportunities and adventures available throughout the Tri-Valley. No verification or pass necessary, just say Youth Ride Free! Parents can take advantage of this special offer to deliver the kids safely and reliably to camps, jobs, sports, and recreation programs.
“Over a quarter of Wheels daily riders are students; offering free rides throughout the summer gives them a chance to explore all the routes that Wheels operates”, said Evan Branning, LAVTA’s Board Chair and a teacher at Village High School in Pleasanton. “Youth who learn to utilize transit often become lifelong transit riders”.
The promotion offers an excellent opportunity for students to trial public transit in preparation for the fall school year. The Summer Youth Ride Free promotion fare free period is May 30 – August 31, 2025.
LAVTA Executive Director Christy Wegener offered “Summer youth ride free was very successful last year and well received by the community; we’re excited to bring back the promotion for a second year. We know parents appreciate the motivation for kids to get off screens and out of the house without mom or dad having to play taxi driver all summer, so the service is a win-win”.
