Las Positas College (LPC) is excited to present the first theater production of Sueños: Our American Musical, an original work by award-winning playwright and composer Jesse J. Sanchez. The play opens on March 21, 2025, at the Mertes Center for the Arts and runs through March 30, 2025. Produced in collaboration with The Actors Conservatory at LPC, this powerful new musical takes audiences on an emotional journey through heartfelt storytelling, dynamic performances, and an unforgettable score.

Set in the late 1990s in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sueños follows the story of Ali Viramontes, an aspiring classical composer who dreams of attending Juilliard. With the support of his mother and new friends, he strives to make his dream a reality, despite the challenges he faces. 

The musical explores themes of personal ambition, parental expectations, and cultural identity while honoring Mexican/Chicano heritage and community. Bringing such a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant production is an exciting milestone for LPC.

Event Details 

Sueños: Our American Musical will run for two weekends only, from March 21 to March 30, 2025. Performances are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays at 7 PM, with matinees on Sundays at 2 PM. The opening night celebration on March 21 will feature a special reception, offering attendees the opportunity to meet the cast, crew, and creative team.
