Las Positas College is thrilled to announce its highly anticipated Literary Arts Festival, scheduled for Saturday, May 11th, 2024. This year’s festival promises an exhilarating lineup of internationally acclaimed authors, engaging writing workshops, children’s events, delectable food trucks, and more.
Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet and interact with a stellar roster of literary luminaries including:
· Daniel Handler/Lemony Snicket: Peabody Award-winning children's writer renowned for his "A Series of Unfortunate Events" series.
· James Spooner: Award-winning graphic memoirist and filmmaker known for works such as "Afro-Punk" and "High Desert."
· Jaron Lanier: Dubbed "The Father of Virtual Reality," Lanier is the author of "Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now" and "Who Owns the Future."
· Ariel Schrag: Scriptwriter credited for works like "The L-Word," "How to Make it in America," and "Awkward."
· Brittany Miller: Scriptwriter known for contributions to "Woke," "Blindspotting," and "Platonic."
The festival will feature a diverse array of sessions and workshops covering a wide range of topics including AI and the Future of Education, The History of Islam, TV Writing, Creating a Zine/Graphic Novel, Getting Published, Memoir Writing, and more. Attendees can also partake in unique experiences such as Wine and Chocolate Tasting with Poetry (21+), the LPC Poetry Slam, and the LPC Literary Magazine (Havik) Award and Publication Ceremony.
Amy Mattern, Dean of Arts and Humanities at Las Positas College, expressed her enthusiasm for the festival, stating, "At Las Positas College, we believe in the power of storytelling to connect, educate, and inspire. The Literary Arts Festival is a celebration of creativity and community. It's a day where writers and readers of all backgrounds come together to share their stories, inspire each other, and foster a love for literature."
